Position Summary
The Hsu laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is looking for a laboratory technician to assist with ongoing experiments led by the PI and other research personnel to investigate gene expression regulation in plants.
The candidate's main duties will include taking care of transgenic plants and performing gene expression analysis following established protocols, such as qRT-PCR and luciferase assays.
The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining, calibrating and operating equipment such as lab dishwasher, plant growth chamber, dissection microscope, light microscope, PCR machines, centrifuges, autoclave machine. The candidate will also assist in ordering lab supplies, general lab organization, and maintaining lab stocks.

Position duties and responsibilities include:
*Take care of transgenic plants including watering, seed harvesting, prepare selection media, record segregation rate in collaboration with research personnel
*Perform gene expression analysis following established protocols. Tasks include RT-qPCR and luciferase assays
*Assist PI and other research personnel for routine experiments and collecting data. Examples include prepare plant media and harvest plant tissues
*Order lab supplies and general lab organization
*Maintain laboratory stocks
*Lab equipment employee will be maintaining, calibrating and operating: lab dishwasher, plant growth chamber, dissection microscope, light microscope, PCR machines, centrifuges, autoclave machine
Laboratory skills in molecular biology and a BSc in biological science related field are required.
Experience with plant genetics is a bonus.
This position is in the lab, during regular/standard business hours Monday-Friday, with an occasional weekend or holiday to maintain plants.
This is a limited term position funded for 1 year from date of hire, with possibility for extension contingent upon funding.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a BSc in biological science field, or other related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in the specific or related field; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Verifiable lab skills in molecular biology.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with plant genetics is a bonus.
