Position Summary
This position supports the strategic initiatives of career education and arts entrepreneurship within the College of Music’s Running Start Office. This position plays a key role in planning and executing career programs, managing experiential learning and internship opportunities, building employer relationships, and advancing student engagement through digital marketing and communications.
Primary responsibilities include coordinating and evaluating career-focused events featuring alumni and guest artists, providing logistical and instructional support for artist residencies and performance series, and serving as the College’s liaison to the MSU Career Services Network. The position also oversees employer relations and experiential learning programs—such as internships, study-away opportunities, and the Classical Gigline service, while advising students on professional preparation, entrepreneurship, and career exploration.
Additionally, the role leads marketing and outreach efforts to promote career education initiatives, supervises student interns in implementing social media and engagement strategies, and ensures broad participation across degree programs. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
This is a full-time active employment position for 10 months per year with a prescheduled unpaid leave of absence with benefits during June and July.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a Master's degree in the arts, and one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience related to area of employment; OR knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a Bachelor’s degree in the arts, and three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience developing career programs and activities; advising individuals and groups in a variety of settings; public speaking; writing and editing for mass distribution; working in a team environment; use of internet, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of current trends in the classical, jazz, and/or popular music industry and arts entrepreneurship.
- Strong presentation and written communication skills.
- Experience planning and executing events.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience working as a self-employed professional in the performing arts.
- Experience with current social media marketing strategies.
- Knowledge of new arts-related business models, research, and technology.

Work Hours
