Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.

Unit Position Summary

This individual will support the Axia Institute’s research and testing initiatives focused on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies. This internship provides hands-on experience in a state-of-the-art Axia RFID Lab environment located in Midland MI contributing to real-world applications in smart packaging, supply chain optimization, and healthcare solutions.

  • Assist in the setup and execution of RFID testing protocols, including tag performance, read range, and environmental stress testing. 

  • Operate and maintain RFID testing equipment such as Voyantic Tagformance systems and anechoic chambers. 

  • Collect, organize, and analyze test data using software tools like Excel. 

  • Document test procedures, results, and observations in accordance with ISO 17025:2017 standards. 

  • Support the preparation of technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Participate in ongoing research projects, including RFID-enabled pharmaceutical tracking and smart packaging initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with lab staff and researchers to troubleshoot equipment and refine testing methodologies. 

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab environment, adhering to all safety protocols. 

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by suggesting enhancements to testing workflows or data analysis techniques. 

  • Attend team meetings and contribute to discussions on project progress and innovation opportunities. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a high school. 

  • Ability to work in person in Axia Lab located in Midland, MI. 

  • Good understanding of RFID technology and its applications. 

  • Good understanding of healthcare and blood supply chain. 

  • Familiarity with lab equipment and safety protocols. 

  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting using tools such as Excel. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
