Position Summary

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is seeking a highly motivated and independent research assistant to join the laboratory of Dr. Andrea Gonzales to support ongoing investigations into the role of Th2 cytokines in atopic dermatitis across companion animals and humans.  An emphasis on understanding neuro-immune interactions to identify molecular mechanisms underlying atopic disease is also a focus in the hopes of identifying novel therapeutic targets in companion animals and humans.  This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the One Health concept in a collaborative and dynamic environment and be a part of the growth in MSU’s drug discovery program.  This position is for one year from the original hire date with the potential for an extension based on funding availability. 

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's of science in Biology, Animal Sciences, Pharmacology, Toxicology or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research methodologies, writing reports, supervision, software, data interpretation and handling; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

At least 5 years’ experience working in a research lab setting; experience with cell culture techniques and ability to work with cell lines, primary cells, and iPSCs across species; experience with plate-based screening, phenotypic assays and immunoassays using a variety of technologies; cellular and molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (e.g. western blot, RNA, DNA from cells and/or tissues, western blotting, PCR, etc.); imaging techniques; data presentation and statistical analysis.
