Tennis Professional

Position Summary

Leads adult and junior instructional classes and clinics for customers of the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility; assists customers with tennis equipment needs and fits customers for proper tennis equipment; works with external vendors to ensure customer equipment specifications are met and assists in the repair of equipment in order to maximize customer satisfaction; proactively markets the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility and class offerings to increase facility revenues; coordinates registration processes for tennis classes, clinics, and court use; answers customer questions about tennis operations and optimal methods of playing tennis; provides general assistance in all areas of the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility as needed, including all special events; able to use all reservation and point of sales equipment and maintains proper cashier, accounting and deposit controls for the Indoor Tennis Facility per MSU and RHS policies; maintains membership and certification through the Racquet Sports Professional Association (RSPA); this job requires significant physical effort and involves walking, standing, running, and related physical activities involved in instructing others in the game of tennis 50-75% of the time.

All positions in RHS Are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency conditions, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing an associate’s degree in a related recreational sports area; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in instructing others in the game of tennis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional level competitive experience in tennis required.

Desired Qualifications

Current Racquet Sports Professional Association (RSPA) certification or pursuing a RSPA certification; experience teaching cardio tennis; experience teaching, adapting, and developing age 10 & under tennis; experience running tennis tournaments.
