Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This a temporary or on-call position. Provides clerical support. Responsibilities may include secretarial, receptionist, bookkeeping, information processing or related clerical tasks. Temps On-Campus: includes College of Human Medicine, the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Detroit Medical Center, and the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Macomb University CenterTerm. On campus temps can work six (6) months then terminate for three (3) months or switch to an oncall. Off campus temps can continuously work nine(9) month appointment with a one (1) week break in between. On-Call allowed to work up to 40 hours/week for three (3) months then must be moved down to 19 hours/week and cannot work more than 520 hours in any six (6) month period.

Unit Position Summary

As Community Engagement and Office Support with the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, you will provide flexible support to community-facing initiatives, event coordination, and office support. This position contributes to a positive and service-oriented environment by assisting with engagement activities, special projects, and front-office needs. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong customer service, adaptability, and professionalism while working in a fast-paced higher education setting. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Assist with coordination of community engagement activities 

  • Support engagement communications and materials 

  • Support planning, logistics, set-up, and execution of events, workshops, and meetings 

  • Greet and assist visitors, students, faculty, and community partners 

  • Provide reception and phone coverage as needed - process and route inquiries, schedule appointments, and maintain organized office workflows 

  • Assist with document preparation, tracking, data entry, and other administrative tasks 

  • Contribute to project-based initiatives aligned with departmental or college priorities 

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet shifting business needs

  • Experience working in a higher education environment or comparable support setting 

  • Positive and professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills 

  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously 

  • Ability to pivot as business needs shift and work both independently and collaboratively 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Education in Communication, Engagement, Human Resources, or related field (or equivalent experience)
