Position Summary

Responsible for performing and evaluating complex chemical and microscopic tests in order to provide timely, accurate diagnostic data for use by veterinarians; performs clinical laboratory procedures in the areas of clinical chemistry, immunohematology, hematology, coagulation, immunology, and urinalysis; operates and maintains complex scientific instruments; participates in a laboratory and department-wide team environment to problem-solve, make laboratory policy, distribute information, and work toward continual process improvement. This position has a non-standard work schedule including evenings and weekends. Duties associated with this position involve exposure to veterinary biological specimens, working with hazardous waste, use of regulated chemicals and biological materials, and working on a video display terminal greater than 25 percent of the time.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Medical Technology, Biological Science or related science field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in high volume clinical pathology diagnostics; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Board certification as an MT or CLS (ASCP or BOR) or eligible as MT or CLS (ASCP or BOR) within six months of hire OR in active pursuit of VTS credentialing in veterinary clinical pathology by the AVCPT. Working knowledge and experience with Advia 2120, Beckman AU 680, Nova pHOx, Helena EDC, and Diagnostic Stago Compact hemostasis analyzer; veterinary hematology and immunohematology; three years of generalist work experience; demonstrated technical writing skills including writing procedures using NCCLS guidelines; quality assurance experience; and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Hours
