Position Overview
The Temporary / On-Call Website Manager is responsible for the daily maintenance, accuracy, timeliness, and performance of WKAR’s website and related digital properties. This position ensures content is published consistently, aligns with editorial priorities, and reaches audiences in a clear, accessible, and engaging way.
This role functions as the operational bridge between content creators, marketing, development, and station leadership ensuring that digital content is delivered efficiently and without bottlenecks. The Web Manager treats the website as a primary distribution platform, not an afterthought.
This is a flexible, hourly, on-call position designed to provide consistent coverage for daily updates, special initiatives, campaigns, and high-priority announcements.
Daily Website Operations
- Update homepage and key landing pages daily to reflect programming, news, events, and campaigns
- Publish articles, video, audio, and promotional content in a timely manner
- Ensure time-sensitive content (breaking news, events, deadlines) is posted promptly
- Maintain accuracy, formatting consistency, and brand standards
Cross-Department Coordination
- Work closely with content producers, radio, TV, digital, marketing, and development teams to gather and publish materials
- Proactively follow up with staff to ensure content is complete and ready for posting
- Support underwriting, fundraising, and membership campaigns through coordinated digital updates
Quality Control & User Experience
- Ensure website navigation, links, and multimedia elements function properly
- Monitor for broken links, outdated information, and accessibility issues
- Optimize content for readability and audience engagement
- Maintain consistent metadata, tagging, and search optimization practices
Platform & Performance Management
- Use the station’s CMS to manage content updates efficiently
- Monitor basic web analytics to identify performance trends and areas for improvement
- Make recommendations for improving content delivery, visibility, and audience engagement
Special Projects
- Support website updates during pledge drives, major productions, or station initiatives
- Assist with landing page builds, promotional campaigns, and digital rollouts
- Provide coverage during staff absences or high-volume periods
Required Qualifications
- Experience managing website content in a CMS environment
- Strong written communication and editing skills
- Highly organized with ability to manage multiple content streams
- Ability to work independently and meet daily deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic understanding of SEO and digital publishing best practices
Work Hours
- Temporary / On-Call (hourly)
- Flexible schedule with expectation of daily website oversight
- May require occasional evening or weekend updates depending on programming or station needs
