Position Summary

Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business, Department of Supply Chain Management, has an opening for a full-time, fixed-term academic specialist to serve as Director of the department’s Corporate and Student Relations Office. The Corporate and Student Relations Office (CSRO) supports undergraduate and graduate education opportunities beyond classroom learning, with activities that are an integral part of the Supply Chain Management (SCM) program at MSU. The CSRO acts as a liaison between corporate partners and different MSU stakeholders (Faculty and Students) in facilitating superior educational, research, and placement opportunities. It will also help strengthen the corporate outreach and branding of the Department of Supply Chain Management, serving as a link between companies who are interested in developing relationships with the SCM department to leverage mutual synergies for the SCM department and Corporate Partners. 

The CSRO director’s job responsibilities include:

  • Managing relationships and serving as the primary interface between the Department of Supply Chain Management and enterprises that have or want a relationship with the department.
  • Build active opportunities to enhance the value proposition for the SCM Council member companies in a holistic manner that includes research projects, and experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate, and graduate students and coordinating with Executive Development Programs.
  • Serve as a departmental liaison to employers and Broad’s Russell Palmer Career Management Center; involving appropriate faculty; and communicating, publicizing, and keeping Broad College Development and Alumni Relations and MSU University Advancement appraised of corporate engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborating with University and Broad College Advancement to increase external funding for scholarships and student events/trips; this includes working with the Development and Alumni Relations department to attract corporate membership for the Supply Chain Management Council.
  • Facilitate creating enhanced industry awareness of the SCM program and other credit and non-credit programs offered by the Broad College of Business at MSU through conference participation, elevating presence in national supply chain organizations, and building deeper relationships with corporate partners.
  • Support the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) student organization. Responsible for advising students on scholarship funding opportunities, student events, and corporate trips. Advise students about resources at Broad and MSU to ensure they achieve their academic and professional objectives in collaboration with other campus organizations, including interactions with Alumni as needed.
  • Serve as a departmental liaison to Broad’s Undergraduate Academic Services (UAS) to assist MSU, Broad, and SCM students to maximize their academic performance and graduation objectives.
  • Assist students to understand other support resources at Michigan State University, such as MSU Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS), Office of Spartan Experiences, the Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS), etc.
  • Representing the department to select SCM scholarship awardees; and serving on college committees to support corporate relations management, student learning, and professional development.
  • Coordinating and grading (where appropriate) internship co-op courses and support multiple 1-credit electives, and other courses, as necessary.
  • Coordinate external case competitions and work with faculty to recruit student groups.

Minimum Requirements

The position requires a minimum of master’s degree in business, or related fields. 

Desired Qualifications

Active work experience in supply chain management or related fields is highly desirable. Experience in creating industry research engagements would be an asset. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, detail-oriented, have excellent time-management skills, and work in a high-performance cross-functional and collaborative environment that can balance needs of diverse stakeholders.
