Position Summary
This position assists in developing, overseeing, implementing and monitoring programs to control or eliminate chemical and occupational hazards; assists in overseeing the safe and proper storage, use and transport of hazardous materials; assists in developing and conducts training programs related to hazardous materials; and reviews research and related campus activities involving hazardous materials in order to maintain compliance with state, federal and University regulations and guidelines. This position provides a broad range of chemical safety and industrial hygiene support to campus, such as: auditing engineering controls, performing industrial hygiene consultations, and assisting with compliance with the MSU Chemical Hygiene Plan, federal and state licenses and permits, safety rules, regulations, and guidelines experiments.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, or a related field; three to five years related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in industrial hygiene, occupational health/safety biological, and chemical safety; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- A broad foundation in the chemical sciences or chemical engineering, with demonstrated knowledge in the fundamentals of chemistry to understand research processes and materials, and their related health hazards.
- Professional knowledge of laboratory safety and industrial hygiene concepts.
- Demonstrated experience in report writing, record keeping and interpretation of compliance standards.
- Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety, or a closely related field.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist preferred.
