Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides support in one or more skilled trades areas such as a bindery machine operator, carpenter, electrician, glazier, instrument maker, locksmith, mason, mechanic, machinist, painter, pipefitter, plasterer, plumber, printing press operator, roofer, trades helper, upholsterer, welder, etc. Classified titles may be used where needed to track on-call/temporary staff with licensure/certification requirements. Term: Temps can work nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour. Regular in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.
This position will maintain, repair and overhaul gasoline, diesel, electric, hybrid, powered automobiles, trucks, and other university equipment by examining vehicles and diagnosing the nature and extent of damage or malfunction; plans work procedure using charts, technical manuals, diagrams, and specifications. This position will also estimate repairs and interacting / communicating with customers. Act as a consultant to customers giving best practice options. Interact with vendors, research and ordering parts to provide the best value.

Desired Qualifications
Completion of high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
One year of experience in automotive maintenance.
Casual knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of basic skilled trades work.
Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license is necessary. Must drive University vehicles to perform job duties of this classification.
Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.
Requires knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
Ability to provide outstanding customer service; experience with automotive, light and medium duty truck maintenance, including tire service/replacement and related equipment, lube oil and filter service, battery replacement, automotive hoist operation, hand and power tool use; auto/light truck lighting services: bulbs, fuses, basic electrical wiring and component replacement; exceptional communication skills to assist customers and service garage staff.
