Prevention Education Manager
Position Summary
Michigan State University has developed a strong network of prevention programs to address issues of relationship violence, sexual misconduct, stalking, and other forms of discrimination and harassment. The Prevention Education Manager (PEM) is an important part of this network and will have knowledge of sexual and relationship violence prevention efforts, including general knowledge of relevant federal policies, including Title IX and Clery Act, and the ability to interpret relevant federal, state, and university policies as needed.
Further, this position works within a team to develop, facilitate, and assess various trainings and programs for the MSU community, which include, but is not limited to, students, faculty, staff, and volunteers. This position will be responsible for the following duties:
Training Development & Delivery
- Develop and deliver comprehensive prevention education training content for the university community, including, but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, and university program volunteers.
- Coordinate and support various ongoing training, outreach, and professional development opportunities for the campus community, including but not limited to, lunch and learns, advanced trainings, summits, student-focused programming events, and other types of engagement opportunities.
- Design department training resources, such as presentations, handouts, posters, video recordings, and other mediums to supplement and support the department’s training objectives.
- Facilitate feedback sessions with university community members, including listening sessions and other related efforts, to better understand campus climate and develop appropriate intervention efforts as needed.
- Collaborates with campus partners to align training efforts with institutional policies, compliance requirements and community need.
Record Management & Assessment
- Manage training and event registrations and attendance, including tracking and reconciliation of records for compliance measures using department-approved systems.
- Track and maintain evaluation and attendance records including tasks such as supporting university community members with troubleshooting issues related to online learning programs, various triaging of reported issues with accessing training content, providing alternative education, and updating and maintaining records appropriately.
- Audit training records to ensure learners’ records are appropriately updated.
- Support department assessment efforts through developing, updating, and promoting evaluations for programs and training initiatives.
Department-specific focus areas
- Supervision or oversight of student employees either on a regular or temporary basis, including, but not limited to, peer educators, front desk workers, practicum students, and other student positions, as appropriate to the position and departmental needs.
- Contributes to the development of the department’s annual report, compiling relevant data, summaries, and impact narratives.
MISC
- Implements outreach strategies to raise awareness of prevention education training, resources, and events across the campus community.
- Remain up to date on research, policy, and promising practices related to federal, state, and institutional policies and align training efforts accordingly.
- Monitors and adapts programming in response to participant feedback, assessment results, and evolving institutional needs.
- Represent the department in serving on various institutional committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Theory and Methodology and/or a specialization in the designated area of expertise; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and overseeing seminars and conferences including public relations, organizing and disseminating training materials and information both written and web-based; budget and records maintenance and computer support; experience in supervision, database, spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, knowledge of HTML programming and web site development and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Preferred Master’s degree in social work, student affairs, psychology, public health or related field; minimum 2-4 years of experience working in the field of sexual assault and relationship violence or discrimination prevention. Knowledge of relevant federal policies, including Title IX and Clery Act; experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences; ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion, sensitivity, and neutrality; ability to make sound decisions in emergency or high pressure situations; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
