Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

Characteristic duties and responsibilities:

  • Processes new monographic materials for the Music Library collection, including scores, books, and sound recordings
  • Processes and maintains new serial materials, including identifying missing issues and preparing completed volumes for binding
  • Identifies and corrects inaccuracies with collection materials (e.g. locations, call numbers, missing or incorrect barcodes, etc.)
  • Provides support for collection maintenance, including searching for lost items
  • Assists with processing library hold and interlibrary loan requests
  • Maintains positive and professional working relationships with library colleagues and patrons
  • Provides responsive and inclusive service, supporting student staff in answering and resolving general questions and requests
  • Performs general circulation duties for patrons at the Music Library circulation desk as needed
  • Refers reference questions to the Music Librarian as needed
  • Assists student supervisor with supervision and training of student employees
  • Assists in maintaining the physical library space (e.g., reporting facilities and custodial issues as needed)
  • Creates and/or maintains documentation for areas of responsibility
  • Participates in Music Library unit meetings
  • Assists with other Music Library projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or knowledge equivalent to that acquired for a four-year college degree program
  • One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an office setting
  • Proficient computer skills (databases, spreadsheets, word processing) and demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies or applications to existing workflows
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated close attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and tasks
  • Ability to work closely and problem-solve with colleagues from all library departments, students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated capacity to work successfully with diverse populations

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • Educational background or other demonstrated knowledge or experience with music
  • Ability to read musical notation
  • Experience with or knowledge of specialized music formats (e.g., scores, sound recordings)
  • Previous experience in an academic library environment
  • Experience or familiarity with library systems and platforms
  • Ability to work with non-English language materials
  • Experience with Folio or another similar integrated library system
