Position Summary

  • Position is responsible for managing the overall clinical nursing activities of Campus Health Services Student Health department.
  • Oversees existing policy/protocol and investigates, creates or revises clinical nursing care and service standards/practices to meet health care objectives and maintain quality of care standards.
  • Formulates, implements and administers safety, operational, administrative and nursing policies/procedures for the organization.
  • Works with CHS Medical Director and Assistant Medical Director to create an accessible, inclusive, high quality medical experience for the MSU student community.
  • Provides direct managerial leadership and supervision to nursing staff including recruitment/hiring, evaluation and training to hold staff accountable to policies and procedures.
  • Completes annual staff review and planning process. Facilitates staff development programs and develops educational tools and evaluation techniques.
  • Ensures newly hired staff receive appropriate on-boarding/orientation and evaluates the competency of all staff on a regular basis.
  • Coordinates ongoing training to ensure competency requirements are completed in a timely manner.
  • Administers disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Schedules nursing staff in an efficient and fair manner.
  • Oversees Nurse Visit and Allergy clinics.
  • Participates in developing, administering and monitoring departmental budget and authorizing expenditures.
  • Chairs the Quality Nursing Care committee and helps design, plan, and implement quality assurance and improvement initiatives, including nursing chart audits.
  • Manages and maintains the stock of supplies and orders as needed.
  • Direct patient care/clinical duties, including triage of patients, as needed.
  • Provides backup to CHS Executive Assistant’s scheduling-related duties when absent. 

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Nursing; three to five years of related and progressively responsible or expansive work experience in nursing, ambulatory care, management and supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The position also requires possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. 

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Masters in Nursing or Public Health.

Experience in the college health setting; demonstrated use of quality improvement tools; experience with process improvement and policy creation; ability to provide training for staff and co-workers; experience leading unionized staff; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; strong customer service skills.
