Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

We are seeking a Translation Editor to join our Mellon-funded digital humanities lab, Taller Entre Aguas. Taller Entre Aguas (TEA) is a digital humanities lab and project that is expanding the ways Puerto Ricans gather and think together, building a theorization of “Black Puerto Rican data,” and creating communities of knowledge around Caribbean and Black DH methods. TEA is comprised of 4 digital humanities projects: The Criadas Project, The Registro Project, The Libertos Project, and The Lugares Históricos Project.  You will be expected to translate metadata, text, and materials for digital humanities projects while collaborating with project leads to ensure linguistic accuracy across platforms. At the same time, you will be working alongside other members of Taller Entre Aguas and community partners to assist in logistics and execution of TEA programming, primarily focusing on the Field School. 

 

● Translate metadata, exhibit text, captions, and interpretive materials for digital archives and DH projects.

● Collaborate with project leads to ensure linguistic accuracy across digital platforms.

● Support bilingual interface language for public-facing digital initiatives.

● Assist in developing culturally responsive translation glossaries for recurring terminology.

● Attend project meetings as needed (within allocated hours).

● Meet established deadlines and maintain consistent communication with staff and fellows.

● Track hours and submit brief quarterly summaries of completed translations. 

Desired Qualifications

● Native or near-native fluency in Puerto Rican Spanish and English.

● Demonstrated experience translating academic, archival, or cultural materials.

● Familiarity with Afro–Puerto Rican history, Black studies, and diasporic frameworks.

● Experience with digital humanities or public humanities projects preferred.
