Access Control Technician
Position Summary
Salary: $33.64- $38.43 upon meeting the requirements. This position will maintain, repair, install, and modify communication and electronic equipment, scoreboards, clocks, access control systems, security cameras, doorbells, and sound systems. Fabricates, modifies, maintains, and repairs specialized electronic equipment and related devices; participates in design activities and resolve equipment operational problems; calibrates, repairs, and tests, scientific/electronic components and equipment involving the use of meters, oscilloscopes, frequency standards, transistors, capacitors, and transformers; Provides technical information, advice, operating instructions, and similar information to supporting skilled trades employees. Designs and/or modifies standard electronic circuitry, including data collection equipment and unusual test equipment. Erects and works from ladders, scaffolding, boom trucks, and similar devices; Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and job specifications; Prepares detailed reports, recommendations, records, and similar information for supervisory and management use; Requisitions equipment, materials, and parts; Estimates time and materials to be used on the job; Stocks, maintains, and may operate a University service vehicle; May staff a swing shift trouble truck and respond to a wide variety of service calls; Serves as a resource authority to supporting skilled trades; Leads, trains and oversees support staff. Ability to identify and mitigate health hazards associated within the working environment.
Job responsibilities are as follows:
50% Installation of electronic, access control and security camera systems
20% Troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment, scoreboards, clocks, access control systems, security cameras, doorbells, and sound systems.
10% Perform preventive maintenance on electronic systems
10% Interpreting and detailing blueprints, as-builts, specifications and archives for for the purpose of investigating repairs and for project preparation.
10% Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development.

Minimum Requirements
Completion of high school education or equivalent combination of technical training and experience; Successful completion of an applicable trade-specific Trades Helper program, or completion of an approved apprenticeship program, or an associate degree, or equivalent education/experience; Five years of experience in the electronics trade that includes four years of experience in commercial electronics installation, maintenance and troubleshooting and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification, or equivalent experience; Demonstrated ability to perform work to accepted industry standards; Expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade; Expert knowledge of applicable electrical codes, rules, and regulations (local, state, and federal); Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license; Must furnish own hand tools; Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.
Successful completion of an electronics trade competency test or an associate’s degree in electronic technologies to receive progression step increases at and after the 18 month mark.
Desired Qualifications
Associate’s degree in electronics technology; electrical journeyman’s license; experience with Network Infrastructures; computer experience; experience in customer contact; one year of experience in the installation and maintenance of fire alarm and security systems, athletic scoreboard systems and automatic door systems and the ability to diagnose and repair to component level. State of Michigan Fire Alarm Specialty Technician (FAST) license.

Summary of Physical Demands
