Position Summary

Supports University Farms’ crop production operations through hands‑on fieldwork, equipment operation, routine maintenance, and nutrient application. This position works closely with the farm manager and assistant farm manager to ensure all field activities and equipment related tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and on schedule.

  • Assist with chopping, bailing, pushing, packing, mowing and unloading of crops as directed by the farm manager.
  • assists with hauling manure and applying to fields as directed by farm management using tractors up to 250 hp.
  • Load, spray, record keeping for field crops and facility application, cleanup of facility and equipment.
  • Assists with plowing, disking and soil finishing using tractors up to 250 hp and tillage equipment up to 25 feet wide.
  • Assists with planting - loading, planting, cleanup.
  • Service of tractors and equipment to include oil changes and preventive maintenance
  • Loading/hauling of equipment and crops using truck and/or trailer requiring a CDL.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • One year satisfactory agricultural work experience.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator license(s) is necessary.
  • Frequent lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
  • Require possession of appropriate Pesticide Application Registration/Certification
  • Require possession or attainment of an MSU Forklift operator's permit prior to completion of applicable probation or trial period.
