Position Summary
The Jacob laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is looking for a laboratory technician to assist with mouse colony management and ongoing research projects performed by undergraduate and graduate students. The candidates’ duties will include management of transgenic mouse colonies such as daily monitoring and census, breeding, weaning and genotyping. Experimental duties include weighing, tumor measurements, DNA electro-vaccination, bleeding, substance administration, immune monitoring and tissue collection. The successful candidate will also assist with general lab management such as maintaining supplies and reagents and coordinating with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) during inspections and for disposal of hazardous waste.
Laboratory animal handling experience (colony management, breeding, treatment and necropsy) are required. Experience with cell culture and flow cytometry is a bonus.
This is a limited term position, for one year from date of hire. Position may be extended contingent upon available funding.
Standard work hours 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. with occasional weekends for sick mice.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Biological Sciences or other related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in Biological Sciences, or related field; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Laboratory animal handling experience with colony management, breeding, treatment and necropsy are required. Experience with cell culture and flow cytometry is a bonus.
Desired Qualifications
3-5 years of experience.
