Working/Functional Title
ECCM Communication Veterinary Nurse
Position Summary
The Communication Nurse supports the Emergency and Critical Care (ECCM/ICU) service by coordinating communication, documentation, and key workflow elements across inpatient care. This role helps ensure consistency between inpatient rounds and the medical record, supports documentation and compliance requirements, assists with charge accuracy, and facilitates efficient patient flow and client communication throughout hospitalization.
Core responsibilities include active participation in inpatient rounds; reviewing medical records for accuracy, completion, and regulatory compliance; supporting rabies and confinement requirements; confirming consents; and coordinating missing documentation or diagnostic information. The Communication Nurse assists with charge review, transfer coordination, deposits, estimates, and client follow‑up in collaboration with clinicians, residents, and students, without independently making medical decisions.

In addition to communication and coordination responsibilities, up to 50% of this position is expected to be spent on the clinical floor assisting with treatments and hands‑on patient care, based on daily staffing levels and patient care needs.
