Unit Position Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Christopher N. Topp at Michigan State University is recruiting a Lab Manager to oversee lab operations across complementary research areas of root biology, phenomics, and translational crop science. The lab is jointly affiliated with the Departments of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences and Plant Biology, and the Plant Resilience Institute.

Desired Qualifications

Qualified candidates should hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in plant biology, soil science, or a related field with a broad expertise and demonstrated success in related experimental approaches, especially deep soil sampling, fractionation, and gas efflux measurements. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability for independent and critical thinking, creativity, strong written/verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, be able to coordinate between people from diverse fields, and have enthusiasm for learning and mastering new techniques. Additionally, the candidate is expected to help mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and technical help in the lab and should have strong previous experience in mentoring and/or training students in a research laboratory setting.
