Position Summary

The Office of Health Sciences is seeking an administrator to manage the fiscal accounting activities of the office. The incumbent will manage the  budget processes and other administrative functions as required or assigned. Will analyze and make recommendations related to the financial aspects of the office. Participates in the development of financial goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the office. Fulfills University requirements for preparation and input of the OHS budget and forecasting activities. Prepares human resource transactions such as cost distributions and salary analysis as directed by the SVP or other OHS leadership. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Provides support to the Finance Administrator and the Senior Vice President (SVP) for Health Sciences on financial matters, providing an all-funds overview of the unit’s fiscal activities. 

Manages the office budget process and accounting practices; oversees the administration of the general fund budgets in accordance with the strategic direction of the SVP; prepares reports for executive level decision making.  

Works with the OHS leadership to align the Office of Health Sciences goals to funding resource distribution. 

Reports and explains budget variances; addresses variances and presents alternatives for achieving goals. 

Meets fiduciary responsibility for financial controls and complies with all audit requirements. 

Manages the OHS MAU accounts including revenue/expense reporting, monitors/reviews expenditures, generates reports, prepares financial forecasts, identifies, and analyzes financial problems and recommends solutions.  

Identifies and communicates areas of financial planning risk. Seeks opportunities to derive operational efficiencies by utilizing health sciences resources more effectively. 

Acts as a resource to the SVP and other office leadership to develop, implement and interpret financial policies within the office.

Supports the SVP and the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Strategic Management in the annual planning process. 

Assists Financial Administrator in the financial components for the Henry Ford Health + MSU Health Sciences partnership.

Oversees maintenance of OHS commitments.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting or Finance with relevant course work in Computer Science; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in professional financial statement preparation including cost accounting or auditing or registration as a Certified Public Accountant; requires experience in word processing, office management, spreadsheet, and accounting software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Adept at working collaboratively and building rapport with a diverse population of faculty, and staff; familiarity with MSU policies and procedures: demonstrated commitment to MSU's core institutional values, including strengthening a climate of respect, caring, and inclusion; commitment to teamwork; excellent judgment; ability to work on several projects simultaneously; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; experience with Microsoft Teams and Office 365, Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) including Kuali, SAP, Planning Analytics, Anaplan, Cognos Analytics a plus.
