Position Summary
Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS) houses over 17,000 students, employs close to 1,500 staff and manages five million square feet of property on the East Lansing campus. Our mission is to provide exceptional and equitable community experiences, one connection at a time. We are seeking a Training Program Developer to support the ongoing training and development efforts in REHS Facilities including onboarding, skill development, professional development and continuous learning that is responsive to the needs of custodial and maintenance team members in REHS. This role reports to the REHS Assistant Director for Training & Development and is a part of the Culture and Strategy unit within REHS.
The Facilities Training Program Developer oversees the instructional development of staff training programs, seminars, workshops, and related projects, specializing in compliance, trade, and professional development for the REHS Facilities Unit(s). Additionally, the Facilities Training Program Developer will collaborate and coordinate training efforts with the divisional and unit initiatives.
CHARACTERSITIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyzes, designs, presents, develops, and oversees instructional development of training classes, seminars, workshops and related projects for facilities team members, with a focus on skilled trades and custodial staff.
- Develops and facilitates presentations, prepares documentation, and delivers training programs related to skilled trades and professional development for all classification levels in REHS Facilities.
- Consults with administrators, staff and others on instructional needs, systems, and subsystems related to the execution of Facilities workflows.
- Consults with professional associations, administrators, staff, students, and others on current trends and uses for educational programs and multimedia technology systems related to facilities operations on college campuses.
- Use instructional design principles and computer knowledge to prepare and produce manuals and learning materials.
- Develops coordinates and presents programs to train supervisors on role effectiveness.
- Evaluates learning programs and tools to measure knowledge retention, overall effectiveness, and identify gaps.
- Manages and enhances Facilities Learning and Development SharePoint page
- Identifies and promotes learning opportunities to Facilities team members including webinar and other online professional development.
- Develops and teaches short courses on the uses, development, and evaluation of multimedia interactive instruction and/or other educational programs.
- Maintain and coordinate the Facilities training space.
- Advocates for Facilities training needs in departmental and divisional training spaces and beyond.
- Collaborates with team members and units at all levels of the organization to provide professional development and compliance training opportunities for Facilities team members.
- Tracks team member training to ensure regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Facilitates departmental onboarding and orientation programs.
- Provides training and ongoing support for process documentation and ProMapp
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to provide training to custodial and maintenance team members.
- Work modality considerations - This is an in-person position located in East Lansing, MI. This position will have a desk space in 1855 Place but will be mobile due to the geographic distribution of Facilities team members across campus.
All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Systems development, Instructional Technology Systems, Instructional Science or a related educational programs development area, and/or a field related to the area of expertise in knowledge of facilities training and onboarding; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the design, development and presentation of instructional programs using software or tools related to the educational programs being conducted; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires a valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in Facilities or related field.
- Certifications from facilities-related professional organizations such as APPA, ISSA, MAPPA, etc.
- Previous experience in staff training and development
