Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position Summary
The candidate should have experience following established procedures in performing tests and assays, generating and recording data for later analysis, mouse husbandry and operating, maintaining and monitor research instruments and equipment. This is a temporary position funded for nine months from date of hire with possible extension contingent on available funding.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows established procedures in performing tests and assays, such as mouse PCR genotyping, in order to generate and record data for later analysis by other researchers.
- Performs or assists with mouse husbandry, such as breeding, weaning, tailing mice.
- Performs or assists with mouse physiological studies, such as weight measurements, glucose tolerance tests, drug dosing, and special diet feeding.
- Help with histology, such as cryosectioning.
- Grows and maintains cell lines and virus stocks for laboratory use.
- Prepares solutions and mixtures for injections, culture media and stains, by measuring and mixing appropriate chemicals.
- Processes tissues for microscopic examination using timed fluid changes, paraƯin embedding, sectioning and staining.
- Performs or assists with molecular biology and protein-based or genomic techniques, such as western blotting or RNA isolation.
- Performs or assistant with cell isolation, purification, and flow cytometry.
- Operates, maintains and monitors research instruments and equipment.
- Attends department, program or college level scientific group meetings, such as seminars or symposia.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with histological processing and microscopic examination
- Familiarity with cryopreservation techniques
- Experience with data analysis and scientific writing
