Position Summary
The Language Learning Lab in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State University (directed by Ron Pomper, Ph.D.) is seeking a full-time Research Coordinator. The goal of the Language Learning Lab is to better understand how children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) learn new words and how best to support their learning through intervention.
The successful candidate will have frequent interactions with a wonderful group of curious, committed, and supportive people. This position is ideal for a candidate who would like to gain experience in a research environment. This is a 1-year position with the possibility of renewal contingent upon funding.
The Research Coordinator will play an integral role in a project assessing comprehension of legal vocabulary by adolescents with and without DLD. The Research Coordinator will:
- Coordinate day-to-day lab operations
- Hire, train, and supervise undergraduate student employees
- Recruit participants and schedule research visits
- Assist with data collection and data entry
- Develop and maintain study protocols
- Communicate with the Institutional Review Board
- Manage budget and purchase requests
- Help create a lab website and newsletter
- Promote a lab culture of inclusion and respect
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communicative Sciences and Disorders/Speech and Hearing Sciences, Psychology, or a related field
- One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques
- Familiarity with Microsoft programs (e.g., Word, Excel).
