Position Summary
Job Summary:
The Radiology Service Manager supervises and performs daily operations of diagnostic imaging services working with the Assistant Radiology Administrator. Provides direct supervision for the professional radiology technicians for CT, MRI, and PET. Works as a lead Radiographer and as a resource for staff and other departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily supervision, coaching, and support to multi-modality diagnostic radiologic technologists.
- Oversee onboarding, competencies, evaluations, and performance feedback.
- Model MSU HCI core values of collaboration, compassion, integrity, and respect.
- Assist with hiring, scheduling, and workforce planning.
- Coordinate staffing assignments to ensure appropriate coverage based on patient volume and acuity.
- Monitor workflow, exam throughput, and resource utilization to optimize efficiency.
- Partner with radiologists and fellow radiographers for coordinated patient care.
- Identify workflow challenges and lead process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with Health policies, radiation safety standards, MRI/PET/CT safety standards and regulatory requirements (JCAHO)
- Support quality initiatives, safety checks, incident reporting, and corrective action plans.
- Promote a culture of patient safety, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Provide real-time guidance on imaging protocols, equipment operation, and troubleshooting.
- Support equipment quality checks and coordinate service requests with vendors.
- Ensure consistent application of imaging standards across modalities and units.
- Communicate departmental updates, workflow changes, and expectations effectively.
- Serve as an escalation point for staff concerns, operational needs, and patient experience issues.
- Participate in department meetings, improvement projects, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical, vocational or business school in an approved Radiologic Technologist program; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the use of radiology equipment and exposure techniques, positioning and care of patients, radiation safety standards; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

The job requires significant physical effort and involves lifting and maneuvering patients, extensive walking and standing and fine manual dexterity 26-75% of the time; visual and aural acuity necessary to monitor patient care.
