Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or on-call position. Performs a variety of duties in support of summer camps and conferences, such as responding to participant concerns, questions and emergencies; maintaining/monitoring camp rules, checking in/out of participants, attending meetings. May involve overnight supervision of participants. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
Performs a variety of duties in support of Detroit Early Honors Experience for rising 8th and 9th grade students in Detroit Public Schools Community District, such as responding to participant concerns and questions; maintaining/monitoring program rules, daily checking in/out of participants, attending meetings. Involves daytime supervision of participants in coordination with professional staff.
Junior Mentors will commute to the program at the MSU Detroit Center each day.
Junior Mentors are typically high school students and are responsible for guiding and monitoring students at the MSU Detroit Center, and in locations at field sites around Detroit. Other responsibilities for Junior Mentors include creating a friendly and comfortable environment for students, managing student check-in and check-out each day, and monitoring students during their daily activities, field visits, workshops, and research.
Junior Mentors work together as a team, under the guidance of lead Mentors and professional staff. The time-frame will be about 7:30am – 5:30pm each day of the program.
