Position Summary
The College of Social Science is seeking a Research Administrator to support the research enterprise and provide pre-award grant administration services to researchers in the College.
- The Research Administrator II position will work closely with investigators to prepare and submit grant proposals, including budget and justification development, review of sponsor requirements, subcontracts, conflict of interest, and cost sharing.
- Coordinates proposal timelines and approvals while managing multiple complex submissions concurrently and serving as a liaison with investigators, subcontractors, and the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure compliance and timely submission.
- Provides expert pre-award support and guidance to faculty and staff in units, schools and institutes relating to research administration; coordinates contract execution and account setup; works with fiscal officers for a smooth transition to post-award.
- Participates in orientations and training sessions related to Pre-Award Administration.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field; one to three years of progressively responsible experience in administrative, research administration, financial, or related operational roles; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires completion of Essentials of Research Administration (MSU Certificate Program) within one year of hire.
Desired Qualifications
Masters degree; 6 plus years of pre and post award management; demon strated leadership competencies, strong critical thinking, financial and analytical skills; excellent verbal and written communication and int erpersonal skills; knowledge of Michigan State University’s business policies and procedures; experience with Michigan State University Enterprise Business Systems; experience working on college and/or university budgets; completion of MSU’s Essentials of Research Administration; strengths should include a dynamic yet collaborative approach and excellent problem-solving, oral/written communication, and organizational skills; ability to work independently.
