Position Summary

 

The Research Data & Systems Analyst supports the Henry Ford + Michigan State University Health Sciences Partnership by managing research data systems, reporting, and digital tools that enable collaboration, reporting, and making business decisions. This role is essential to building and sustaining the data infrastructure needed for long-term research and operational success. 

The successful candidate will have strong technical, data, analytics, document management, and project management skills to lead, coordinate, implement, and support data reporting and visualization solutions, and the HFH+MSU Partnership intranet. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Research Collaboration Report Maintenance 

  • Manage monthly refresh and maintenance of the Research Collaboration Report tracking awards, proposals, and expenditures across Henry Ford and MSU. 

  • Integrate Excel-based data with MSU’s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) for future scalability. 

  • Ensure consistent data definitions, filters, and queries across all reporting outputs. 

  • Partner with financial reporting teams to track and integrate award data. 

  • Collaborate with data analysts and research administrators to ensure consistent data practices. 

  • Enhance report accuracy and clarity by identifying and implementing improvements. 

  • Cancer Center Data Architecture and Maintenance 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement foundational data architecture for Cancer Center reporting. 

  • Develop and maintain data tables required for Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) submissions. 

  • Resolve system limitations and adapt to evolving data needs, including ROI tracking (e.g., publications, NIH grants, collaborations). 

  • Intranet and Systems Support 

  • Maintain and update intranet content in collaboration with subject matter experts. 

  • Support current and future tools and applications, including decision tools for end users. 

  • Provide technical assistance for web content updates, form development, and document library management. 

  • Administration and Operational Reporting 

  • Integrate data from multiple sources to support strategic planning and operational decisions. 

  • Recommend and/or implement technology solutions to support automation of work processes. 

  • Translate leadership questions into actionable data tasks, reporting solutions, and dashboards. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in information technology, management, business administration, data analytics, or related discipline; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research design, statistical methods and knowledge of computer hardware and software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Desired Qualifications

  •  

    Proficiency in Microsoft tools, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate).  

    • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Cognos, or Tableau.  

    • Knowledge of SQL querying in Oracle or Microsoft environments.  

    • Ability to develop and run queries from various data sources and analyze data.  

    • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.  

    • Demonstrated success in bridging business needs with technical solutions. 

  • Experience in higher education or research administration.  

  • Familiarity with research data (proposals, awards, expenditures, financial reporting).  

  • Experience combining internal and external data sets to create a single source of truth.  

  • Understanding of analytics, data in higher education, and business analysis.  

  • Experience supporting intranet platforms and web-based tools.  

  • Proven resourcefulness and ability to anticipate needs and solve problems independently.

Special Instructions

some of this work can be done remotely but the selected candidate will be required to be on site in East Lansing at least 3 days per week.
