Postdoctoral Research Associate

Position Summary

The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Innovation at Michigan State University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate specializing in the integration of artificial intelligence into higher education curriculum. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to forward-looking academic innovation initiatives at a top-ranked, land-grant research university.

The successful candidate will lead and participate in research project and platform integration projects examining how AI tools and pedagogical frameworks can be effectively and equitably integrated into university-level teaching and learning environments. This position reports directly to Vice Provost Marcio Oliveira and works closely with academic staff, project managers, and other staff across MSU.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct research studies on AI integration in higher education, including curriculum design, faculty adoption, and student outcomes
  • Develop, pilot, and evaluate AI-enhanced learning pathways, develop micro-credential opportunities, and assess the use of new instructional tools.
  • Assist in the technical configuration and deployment of course platforms and participant registration systems
  • Identify, develop, and implement assessment strategies to measure the efficacy of AI course integration initiatives
  • Synthesize and communicate research findings through institutional reports, peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and institutional reports

Required Degree

Terminal -Education or closely related field

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated teaching and research experience in higher education.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, platforms, or applications relevant to teaching and learning (e.g., generative AI, adaptive learning systems, learning analytics)
  • Strong record of or clear potential for peer-reviewed publication and scholarly dissemination
  • Proficiency in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience designing or assessing AI-integrated courses or curricula at the postsecondary level
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., D2L Brightspace) and instructional technology ecosystems
  • Experience with program evaluation, survey design, or mixed-methods research
  • Knowledge of equity, accessibility, and ethical considerations in AI-assisted education
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Experience working in large, complex university environments
