Assistant Teacher
Position Summary
Seeking qualified candidate as an Assistant Teacher to work with children at the Michigan State University Child Development Laboratory in the department of Human Development and Family Studies. Basic Functions are to support the Head Teacher to provide high-quality early care and education in a classroom setting, according to state licensing and credentialing requirements. Responsibilities include implementing planned activities, participating in child assessment, working with families and the ability to maintain professional conduct per NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired by completing specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college, technical, vocational or trade school; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in providing childcare; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) requires a minimum of a CDA or 12 college credits in in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education.
Desired Qualifications
A Associate or Bachelor degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education; certification in infant, child, and adult CPR and First Aid; experience providing child care to children aged birth to three years; knowledge of infant/toddler development and facilitation of growth and learning; ability to establish high quality relationships with children and families.
