Salary- $99,500.00 to $121,600.00 annually depending on experience.

This position leads the Custodial Services department, which serves the campus community through facility cleaning that adheres to APPA cleaning standards and leverages the OS1 cleaning process, as well as oversight of the IPF Campus Events Office and Pest Control operations. The position provides direct supervision of supervisory staff and indirect supervision of their crews. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, and developing staff into well-rounded professionals; enforcing university policies and departmental rules; and analyzing and forecasting staffing, equipment, and operational requirements using software databases and other technology platforms.
This position provides leadership and guidance to staff and supervisors in addressing employee concerns, customer complaints, and grievances. The role is responsible for work loading by developing and implementing cleaning and operational plans that support and advance the OS1 cleaning process. In addition, the position develops and administers departmental continuity of operations plans and actively participates in IPF emergency response efforts as needed. The position is also responsible for handling inquiries and complaints from campus customers to evaluate and meet their needs while clarifying service expectations.
Additional responsibilities include serving as a steward of university assets and resources and providing leadership for environmental compliance; preparing and overseeing multiple departmental and project budgets in partnership with accounting staff to ensure accurate expenditures and adherence to planned budgets; and preparing and evaluating complex reports, analyses, projections, and proposals with an emphasis on financial data and life-cycle costs. This position fosters partnerships with local and regional vendors, media representatives, government entities, union representatives, university staff, and customers; monitors and researches industry trends and regulatory issues to ensure compliance for MSU; determines specifications and administers services for all university facilities within its area of responsibility; and administers complex contracts related to the operation of auxiliary service units. The position also actively participates in IPF Capital Renewal planning by developing cost estimates and assessing the urgency of asset replacement and renewal initiatives to support the long-term stewardship of university facilities and infrastructure.

35%: Direct the leadership development of supervisory staff to foster a high performance, innovative and collaborative culture by:
• Using Performance Excellence as a planning and evaluation tool to guide, engage and motivate staff to succeed by using T-shape goal development, with a concentration on succession planning and life-long learning.
• Create a positive work environment for employees.
• Consult and advise managers and supervisors in functional areas on direction of Unit, staffing, and action planning aligned with the strategic direction of IPF, budget, performance and team accountability.
• Lead with an emphasis on empathic employee engagement by interacting with staff at all levels and encouraging collaborative communication and innovation through teamwork.
• Initiate and lead customer engagement initiatives to bridge communication between employees and customers.
• Ensure accountability by holding staff to University Polices, processes and procedures with an emphasis on safety, compliance and fiscal responsibility.
25%: Prepare departmental budgets and reviews financial projections and expenditures of funds. Plans and organizes objectives and long-range programs for departmental operations including staffing, workloading, contracts, major equipment, vehicles and supply purchases.
20%: Oversee the Custodial, Pest Control, and IPF Campus Events Department practices to ensure regulatory compliance, best practices of cleaning management, efficiency initiatives, and excellent customer relationships to ensure best value for MSU.
10%: Prepare short-term goals and objectives for the unit; establish objectives, policies and procedures in order to provide for the maximum degree of service to meet the needs of campus users. Evaluates performance of the key services by setting key performance indicators (KPI's), establishing measurable metrics and reporting through a Custodial Services balanced scorecard and quarterly reporting.
10%: Direct the administrative functions of recruiting, hiring, supervising, evaluating and disciplinary actions within the Department.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business, Finance, Human Resources, or a field related to the area of custodial; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervising operational activities related to the area of custodial; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license at the time of hire will be required for this position. Must drive University vehicle to perform the duties of this classification and meet the Universities rigorous safe driving standards.

Work Hours
10:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday - Friday. This position has oversight of (3) shifts, 7-day/week operation and may require flexible work schedule, after-hours, weekend and holiday work.
