Position Summary
Since 1929, Spartan Linen Services (SLS) has been Michigan State University’s on-campus commercial laundry, linen and uniform expert. Today, the SLS facility features a collection of unique legacy machines, systems, and equipment, alongside some state-of-the-art equipment. We proudly serve the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS), MSU departments and the surrounding community. Services offered include:
- Laundry and uniform cleaning
- Table and bed linen rental
- Custom embroidery and screen printing
- Customizable name-brand merchandise, including uniforms and other apparel
Position Summary: The AM Laundry Attendant (6am – 2:30pm) supports the Monday - Friday operations of the laundry facility by helping to prepare work areas, start production activities, and process linens and uniforms in accordance with established quality standards. As an early-shift team member, this position helps ensure laundry operations begin smoothly and efficiently each day.
Position Duties:
- Perform a variety of commercial laundry production activities to process, inspect, finish, and distribute linens and uniforms while maintaining quality, efficiency, and customer service standards.
- Support linen and uniform inventory management through accurate scanning, data entry, recordkeeping, quality control inspections, and minor garment repair activities.
- Load and unload articles from cabinet dryers.
- Shake out and untangle linen from dryers/laundry carts.
- Shake, lay out, and/or feed linen and uniforms into sheet spreader, ironers, vibra steamer and uniform presses.
- Remove finished linen from ironers and presses, inspect for defects and rewash items for quality control.
- Inspect, fold, press, and wrap finished laundry, placing on conveyor or in baskets or hanging on carts/laundry racks.
- Use of computers and other technology for scanning in/out items and filling out paperwork for proper billing and data entry; compliance training, unpacking of new uniforms and linen, matching packing slip with customer order, tagging and data entry per account number.
- Report, record and maintain on-going counts of linen defect items for accurate linen replacement and inventory levels.
- Perform minor hemming and sewing repairs on linens and uniforms.
Working with limited supervision, the AM Laundry Attendant operates laundry equipment, performs quality checks, completes inventory and tracking tasks, and assists with the distribution of clean linens and uniforms. This role requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to prioritize work to support the overall success of the laundry operation and the needs of its customers.
All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Minimum Requirements
- Completion of a grade school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
- Frequent lifting of up to 75 pounds is required.
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to contribute to all operations involving the flow of work within the laundry plant.
- Ability to unload, sort, receive, and scan uniforms and linens.
- Ability to perform ironing, finishing, folding, wrapping, and preparation of clean uniforms, aprons, towels, and linens.
- Basic computer literacy preferred.
- Ability to learn and become proficient in invoicing and inventory management systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a production-oriented environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality service
- Problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions independently during events
- Team coordination skills

Work Hours
