Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
Gifted and Talented Education seeks applications for a tutor position for the Pre-College program, ASCEND (Accelerated Study in Composition, English, and Narrative Discourse) and CHAMP (Cooperative Highly Accelerated Mathematics Program).
These programs are for academically gifted middle school students to earn high school credit in English (ASCEND) and Mathematics (CHAMP). This position will be online and on MSU's campus in East Lansing, MI.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead or help lead virtual study labs on Saturdays
- Lead or help lead Tuesday evenings for the second CHAMP lab
- Tutor middle or high school students in high school English or Math curriculum.

The minimum requirements in knowledge, skills, and abilities for the candidate of our choice:
· Strong work ethic and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
· Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form;
· Multi-task efficiently while managing a high-volume workload in a fast-paced, changing environment;
· Superior customer service skills with the ability to be creative and think ‘outside the box’;
· Strong command of communication, writing, organizational and problem solving skills;
· Effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds and different levels of experience;
Must be available every Saturday morning to lead or help lead virtual study labs.
Our required education and certifications:
- MSU student applicants must be a freshmen, sophomore, or junior studying in WRAC, English, RCAH, or the College of Education for ASCEND.
- MSU student applicants must be a freshmen, sophomore, or junior studying in Mathematics, or the College of Education for CHAMP.
- All other applicants must be at least an enrolled college student in a comparable subject matter or a professional with relevant job experience.
- Must like to read and write, or do math.
- Must like to work with middle and high school students.
Appointment Timeframe:
The position timeframe is August - May. June and July are non-working months. This position may be recurring, but will not lead to full time employment.
Compensation:
Compensation begins at $15.00 per hour and will be determined by the applicant’s relevant experience and job performance. No overtime and no benefits will be available.
