Americorps Aide
Job No: 758032
In State Division Of Student Life And Engagement OTEE- Other EE
Michigan State University College Advising Corps (MSUCAC), in close partnership with the national College Advising Corps (CAC) and the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN), is seeking to help more Michigan students pursue post-secondary education/certification. Recent Michigan State University graduates serve as AmeriCorps members in selected high schools across Michigan, particularly those that are in communities with underrepresented groups, low socio-economic status, and low adult educational attainment rates. In conjunction with school professionals, MSUCAC AmeriCorps members serve as College Advisers to support students as they make the transition from high school to a post-secondary institution. Advisers serve full time and focus on low-income and first-generation students, mentoring them through the complex process of college exploration and enrollment. Advisers provide students and their families with relevant information regarding the benefits of a post-secondary education, preparing for college, and the admission and financial aid processes. Above all, MSUCAC College Advisers work with students to explore options that will be their best fit for a post-secondary credential. Though certainly beneficial, applicants do not need to have previous experience working in college access roles. MSUCAC provides robust training through the College Adviser Institute (CAI) prior to College Advisers enter their schools.
