Mental Health Counselor

The Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC), part of The College at Brockport, State University of New York, and located in downtown Rochester invites applications for a Mental Health Counselor. The REOC delivers comprehensive, community-based academic and workforce development programs and provides support services leading to enhanced employment opportunities, access to further education, personal growth and development.
Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the Counselor completes comprehensive mental health assessments and provides individual and group counseling to students seeking services at the Student Life and Counseling Center. The Counselor also facilitates clinical, consultative, and in-service training to the center and is available to help manage crisis situations. The position is expected to engage and collaborate with, student services and educational departments as well as students. This is a full-time, 12 month position.
- Provides direct counseling to students who present seeking services at The Student Life and Counseling Center. This includes:
- Provides comprehensive mental health assessments and subsequent treatment recommendations
- Develops goals and objectives with clients as a part of an ongoing treatment plan
- Provides individual and/or group counseling
- Provides crisis counseling and intervention
- Completes all necessary clinical documentation in accordance with clinic standards
- Provides outreach to the campus as well as local community agencies as requested
- Remains actively involved with professional associations, and engages in continuous professional development required to maintain licensure
- Collaborates with professional colleagues and support staff to facilitate the provision of quality care for students, and provides input and consultation regarding case management
Master’s degree by time of appointment in counseling, social work or closely related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; minimum of two years of professional, supervised counseling experience working in a mental health setting; NYS Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice mental health counseling; and, effective communication skills and demonstrated success collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.
Demonstrated experience facilitating psycho-educational workshops and/or trainings; experience working on a college campus; experience in crisis management; and, experience with and ability to engage with, a diverse client/student population.
Student Services is a fully integrated service delivery unit of the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center that promotes student success by providing quality services in the area of admissions, registration, counseling, career development, college connections and student life activities to meet and/or exceed the goals established by the University Center for Academic and Workforce Development.
