The School of Communications at Grand Valley State University seeks applicants for an Affiliate Faculty position in the Advertising/Public Relations program to begin August 2018. Individuals will be appointed for one academic year on a full-time basis. The initial appointment may be renewed once for an additional academic year, followed by three-year terms pending successful review.
Required Qualifications and Education:
Applicants must possess a master’s degree in advertising/public relations, communications, or related field and significant professional experience in the advertising/public relations field. Evidence of excellence in teaching at university level is required.
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experience in strategic communication and media planning skills along with strong digital experience and knowledge of emerging technologies. Additionally, the ability to make strong connections in the community for project-based experiential learning and high impact teaching using Design Thinking methods is a plus. A record of active involvement in professional or academic communications associations is preferred.
Responsibilities – Essential Functions:
The successful candidate will teach 5 courses per semester, or 4 courses with an advising load equal to 1 course, depending on program needs. Candidate will teach across the advertising/public relations curriculum and will be expected to teach media planning and to integrate digital components into curriculum where needed.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
Department/Division: The GVSU School of Communications (www.gvsu.edu/soc) places a premium on commitment to the integration of liberal and professional education. The School, located in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, offers a core of courses in communications, after which students select a major in Advertising/Public Relations, Communication Studies, Health Communication, or Multimedia Journalism. The School also offers a Master’s in Communication. The School of Communications has more than 1,100 students.
