This position will support the continued growth of GVSU’s Product Design and Manufacturing engineering program which has doubled in size in the last 5 years. The Product Design and Manufacturing engineering program leads to an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) and Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) degrees. The BSE program includes mandatory co-op education experiences and an extensive experiential learning component. The MSE program emphasizes professional practice as well as applied research. Supported by the local industry, these programs yield career-ready, as well as graduate-school ready, engineering graduates.

Required Qualifications and Education:

Applicants must have a doctorate in manufacturing engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience, particularly in the areas of materials science, processes, as well as industrial and/or project-based experience in these areas

Preferred Qualifications and Education: 

This position involves teaching and industrial experience as well as experience related to recruiting and supervising industrial grade projects. All candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be committed to the highest quality of laboratory and project-based teaching along with scholarly and professional development. The ability to teach broadly in one’s field, and a passion for continuous improvement of the curriculum are desired. An ability to participate in and capitalize upon existing collaborations with industrial partners and a history of external funding are highly valued.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions: 

This position involves teaching in our undergraduate and graduate engineering programs, professional service, and professional development. The successful applicant will work with students to solve challenging industrial sponsored projects that strive to produce globally competitive products to benefit industry. He/she should be comfortable supervising design projects. Finally the successful candidate will have the opportunity to define the strategies that will allow us to educate engineers to lead innovative companies with the ability to compete internationally.
