Required Qualifications and Education: Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in communications, technology or media, or other relevant 4 year degree is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft software applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, internet, and database use. Must have the ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently and have knowledge and the ability to operate cameras and video recorders. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues. Must be able to work with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training. Must be self-motivated and require little to no supervision with the ability to work as a team member. Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment is a must as well as working evenings and weekends. Work requires occasional heavy physical lifting of equipment and management along with the utilization of simulation lab equipment and furnishings. Other physical activity for this position includes bending and walking.
Preferred Qualifications and Education: Bachelor degree in Computer Information Systems. Experience as an Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic. Prior employment in a Simulation Center or healthcare education environment preferred. The ideal candidate should have the ability to assess and troubleshoot computer issues and simulation equipment failures in a timely fashion. Experience with video editing programs is preferred.
Responsibilities – Essential Functions: The Simulation Operations Specialist will report directly to the Director of Simulation. This position will provide support to the Simulation team during scenarios when needed. Operate various simulator support technologies and assists with setup, maintenance, and cleanup of simulations as needed. Provides support for data import into Simulation Center databases for metrics, survey data or any other projects the Simulation Center may be involve in. Provides technical support for computer based multimedia systems and their components including operation of digital cameras, portable video cameras, IP cameras, microphones, monitors, LCD projectors, digital/analog converter software and other technical equipment used in simulation labs. Supports the Multimedia Coordinator during maintenance of digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to record simulated sessions. Supports the Multimedia Coordinator in the use of digital media and web stream creation for educational and professional distribution, distributes content, backs up data, and provides advanced troubleshooting. Responsible for managing the departmental website.
The Simulation Operations Specialist will coordinate routine equipment maintenance, inventory updates and equipment purchases with the equipment and technical support manager for the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences. Must maintain faculty and student video database and organize, distribute and archive video for all courses in the College of Health Professions and the College of Nursing. Must maintain simulation facilities in a clean, safe, organized and operational status. Manage student roster feeds from Banner to video server for each semester. Maintains data confidentiality and security where appropriate. Bust be able to work well under pressure, set priorities, and make critical decisions. Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Must become a certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) within two years of employment.
