Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with K-12 schools and educators
  • Demonstrated ability to envision and manage multiple large-scale projects with attention to tasks and details
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven professional environment
  • Event planning and management experience  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of place-based education and academic service learning  
  • Experience managing a complex budget
  • Experience in fundraising

  Preferred Qualifications and Education: 

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience working in a dynamic, flexible work environment
  • Proven experience in development of community partnerships
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Prior work with or on a governing board
  • Knowledge of watershed issues

Responsibilities - Essential Functions: 

This is a full-time, temporary position funded by a grant that closes June 30, 2019. Continuation of the position beyond this date is dependent on continued funding of the position.

Groundswell is a coalition of community partners with a mission to develop and maintain active school-based community partnerships inspiring lifelong environmental stewardship with a focus on the Lower Grand River Watershed in West Michigan. The project manager works in the Center for Educational Partnerships in the College of Education. The primary responsibility is to manage multiple activities for the Groundswell initiative including event planning, teacher recruitment, professional development, classroom project support, fundraising, and grant reporting/documentation.   • Manage multiple activities for the Groundswell initiative, including event planning, teacher recruitment, classroom project support, resource development, fundraising, and grant reporting/documentation
  • Ability to take initiative and leadership for community-based activities
  • Work with principal investigators, College of Education employees, and other grant staff to successfully meet the goals and objectives of grants that support Groundswell
  • Complete required reports to granting agencies according to established deadlines
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and presentation of teacher professional development focusing on place-based education and environmental stewardship topics
  • Identify, foster, and support school-community partnerships
  • Coordinate activities and support work with advisory boards, councils, and other governance entities
  • Promote stewardship efforts for the sustainability of the Grand River Watershed
  • Assist in sustainability efforts for the Groundswell initiative, including fundraising
