Required Qualifications and Education:  

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Instructional Technology, Information Systems, or a Health Sciences 4 year degree. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft software applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, internet, and database use. 
  • Must have the ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently and have knowledge and the ability to program high-fidelity simulators, operate cameras and video recordings systems. 
  • Must have the ability to compose policy and procedures in relation to multimedia operations. 
  • Must promote and be able to train students, faculty, and staff on how to use various equipment and software platforms available in the Simulation Center. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues. 
  • Must be able to work with internal and external individuals from different academic disciplines and different levels of training. 
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks with impeccable follow-through, accuracy, and punctuality.
  • Must be industrious and self-directed. 
  • Able to communicate well with the ability to work as a team member. 
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment is a must, as well as, working occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Work requires occasional heavy physical lifting of equipment along with the utilization of simulation lab equipment and furnishings.  Other physical activity for this position includes bending and walking. 

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Two years of experience in simulation or technical services. 
  • Prior employment in a simulation center or healthcare education environment preferred. 
  • The ideal candidate should have the ability to assess and troubleshoot hardware and software computer issues and simulation equipment failures in a timely fashion. 
  • Experience with video editing programs is preferred.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions:  The Simulation Center Multimedia Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Simulation.  This position will provide support to the Simulation team during simulated educational scenarios when needed including mannequin upkeep and operation.  This position will also provide support to all Office of the Vice Provost for Health events or initiatives as needed.  Operates various simulator support technologies including virtual and augmented reality platforms and assists with setup, maintenance, and cleanup of simulations as needed.  Provides support for data import into Simulation Center databases for metrics, survey data, or any other project the Simulation Center may be involve in.  Provides technical support for computer based multimedia systems and their components including operation of digital cameras, portable video cameras, IP cameras, microphones, monitors, LCD projectors, digital/analog converter software and other technical equipment used in the Simulation Center.  Supports and maintains the digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to record simulated sessions.  Supports the use of digital media and web stream creation for educational and professional distribution, distributes content, backs up data and provides advanced troubleshooting. Proactively and independently researches emerging technologies and recommends upgrades to equipment and software. Responsible for managing the departmental website.

The Simulation Center Multimedia Coordinator will coordinate routine equipment maintenance, inventory updates and equipment purchases with the equipment and technical support manager for the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences.  Must maintain faculty and student video database and organize, distribute and archive video for all health-related courses.  Must maintain simulation facilities in a clean, safe, organized and operational status.  Manage student roster feeds from Banner to video server for each semester.  Maintains data confidentiality and security where appropriate.  Must be able to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions.  Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Position Requirement: Required to become a certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) within two years of employment.
