Summary:
The Department of Psychology at Grand Valley State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to begin in August 6, 2021.

As a community of educators, scholars, and practitioners the Department of Psychology values the examination of the world through diverse cultural perspectives which inform pedagogy and scholarship, and engagement in our local community. We seek faculty who are committed to excellence in classroom teaching and scholarly engagement of students in collaborative projects. For this position, applicants must be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Faculty area of emphasis may be diverse within the field of ABA, although research and applied experience working with children and adolescents in school or mental health settings is desirable given that the ABA program is closely connected with the School Psychology graduate program.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates from underrepresented groups, candidates who have interest and/or experience in working with diverse student and community populations, and candidates working in emerging fields that can contribute to diversifying the expertise in our department.

Required Qualifications:
● Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, or related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered for a two-year contract with provisions that the Ph.D. must be completed by December 2022.
● Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA or BCBA-D);
● Ability to teach courses in the Applied Behavior Analysis Graduate Certificate program, which is an ABAI Verified Course Sequence;
● Experience and/or willingness to teach high-quality, engaging online courses;
● Demonstrated potential for scholarly productivity including collaborative research and/or application-oriented projects that serve the community;
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
● A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in teaching, scholarship, and service.


Preferred Qualifications:
● Minimum of two years of undergraduate or graduate teaching experience in ABA (teaching assistantships will be considered);
● Research and service experiences working with children and adolescents in school settings or mental health settings, including individuals from under-served populations;
● Interest in expanding the ABA program to include new opportunities to meet the needs of undergraduate and graduate students, the community, and the field;
● Interest in developing practicum experiences for students in the ABA certificate program;
● Demonstrated effectiveness in student engagement and the use of inclusive pedagogy;
● Interest in providing research opportunities for students;
● Commitment to collaboration within the department, across the university, in the local community, and the field of ABA.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions
● Teach six courses/year in the undergraduate and graduate programs with a primary focus on ABA.
● Advise psychology majors and graduate students in the ABA certificate program.
● Maintain an active scholarship program with an emphasis on the application of ABA to benefit populations in the area of emphasis.
● Offer leadership in the ABA program expansion both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
● Participate in service activities that enhance teaching and scholarship; contribute to the department, university, community; and the discipline, and support diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Department/Division:
The Department of Psychology at Grand Valley State University is a collaborative group of 40 full-time faculty that places an emphasis on teaching excellence, active research, and service to the university and community. Our department offers a master’s and psychology specialist degree in school psychology, a graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis, undergraduate majors in psychology and behavioral neuroscience, and a minor in psychology. Faculty in the Psychology Department work collaboratively with the College of Education to offer a teaching endorsement in autism. In addition, our department offers a variety of psychology courses in support of the university’s many other undergraduate and graduate programs. Currently our department has approximately 40 graduate students, 1,100 psychology majors, 275 behavioral neuroscience majors, and 740 minors.
