Summary: The Associate Dean will lead all conversations in the College related to space, facilities, and equipment, manage course scheduling in CLAS, and promote creative activities, research, and grant-seeking among faculty and staff. In collaboration with the Provost’s Office and Institutional Analysis, the Associate Dean will collect, present, and interpret data to support strategic decision making in the College and to assess the College’s progress toward achieving its commitments and goals. The CLAS Dean’s Office takes a team-based approach, and the new Associate Dean will support the work of the College broadly as well as draw on their own experiences and expertise to shape the responsibilities of this position, particularly as they relate to Reach Higher 2025 and the CLAS vision and commitments.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to collect, organize, and interpret data
- Experience with scheduling
- Capacity for the fair and productive configuration and management of resources like space and equipment
- Commitment to working collaboratively with faculty and staff in and beyond the College to solve problems and to pursue opportunities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others respectfully, empathetically, and with cultural humility
- Demonstrated ability to work with creativity, flexibility, persistence, and collaboration towards action
- Tenured associate or full professor in a discipline related to the liberal arts and sciences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior leadership experience, particularly unit head experience (e.g., shared governance leadership roles, unit-level leadership positions, or other professional or community-based experiences)
- Active research/scholarly/creative agenda
- Significant expertise in data analytics, scheduling, facilities configuration, and management
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: graduate education, grant proposal writing, assessment, internship development, multidisciplinary collaboration, experiential learning, high-impact practices, DEIAB, and student success initiatives.
Position type and term This appointment will begin July 7, 2024, with an option to begin May 6, 2024, and will be for a term of five years, renewable in 2029. This is a twelve-month position, 75% as Associate Dean, 25% devoted to departmental teaching, service, or research/creative activities as arranged with the Dean and the unit head. The Associate Dean will be subject to the rules for “Faculty members with administrative assignments” in section 4.2.11.3 of the Faculty Handbook.
Salary/Benefits The Associate Dean will receive a stipend of $30,000 in addition to their regular faculty salary. Appropriate support for professional development will be available.
