Finance Controller

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group expanded its presence in London with the opening of Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London on 3rd June 2024. Sitting on historic Hanover Square, the property comprises 50 guestrooms and 77 private residences, offering hotel guests and residents an oasis of calm and Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service alongside a vibrant atmosphere in the public spaces. It houses the first namesake restaurant in the UK from Michelin Star award winning Chef Akira Back, his ‘ABar Lounge’ concept, ‘ABar Rooftop’ as well as his 14 seat fine dining venue ‘DOSA’. There is also an urban spa, focussed on renewal and recalibration.

The Finance Controller is responsible for the determination of optimum control objectives and for the installation and maintenance of appropriate internal control systems over income, expenditure, assets and liabilities within the hotel and residences. In the performance of these duties, the Finance Controller must maintain a spirit of responsiveness among all persons and functions supervised, in order to produce a positive and unified approach to the fulfilment of all responsibilities of the position.

  • As EXCO member – part of creating strategic vision of the hotel.
  • Innovation initiation and process system improvements.
  • To provide hotel and residences management team with accurate and timely financial information to effectively manage their operations.
  • To direct, manage and support the development, implementation, maintenance and administration of all financial controls and accounting procedures, based upon a maximisation of internal control techniques consistent with MOHG established policy and generally accepted accounting principles, as adapted to the requirements of the hotel’s management contract and other local legal requirements.
  • The Finance Controller is required to play an active role in the management of the hotel and residences and to exercise a responsive attitude to the needs of the General Manager and other members of the hotel management team.
  • To ensure compliance to terms and conditions of the hotel’s management contract, with particular regard to provisions relating to the company’s responsibilities as the managers and bringing any discrepancies to the immediate attention of the General Manager and Director of Finance.
  • To be actively involved in the search for opportunities to improve the profitability of the hotel and residences and encourage the preparation of exception reports and analyses to help meet and measure the success of this objective.

What we are looking for in a Finance Controller:

  • To manage, supervise and support all subordinate employees, with a view to optimising the profitability of the hotel and improving the guest experience.
  • To initiate employee development and evaluation programmes for all subordinate staff to ensure the highest level of professional competence and efficient continuity within those positions.
  • To ensure all financial reports, budgets, forecasts and other information required by MOHG/ownco are accurately compiled and submitted within the specified time limits, identifying variances and making recommendations for improvements as appropriate.
  • To personally review forecasts and budgets prepared by hotel management to ensure the General Manager and DOF are provided with guidelines of performance that are both reasonable and achievable.
