Shape the way our community discovers and connects with knowledge

Do you have a passion for cataloguing, metadata, and the systems that keep modern libraries thriving?
Yarra Libraries is seeking a skilled and motivated library professional to lead our bibliographic services and ensure our collections are accurate, accessible, and responsive to community needs.

This is a rare opportunity to combine your technical expertise in metadata and library systems with a hands-on role that directly supports staff and library users. You’ll join a progressive library service with a supportive culture that values individuals, independent workers, and collaborative problem solvers alike.

Why join Yarra Libraries?

  • Lead and influence: Take a lead role in bibliographic services, shaping how resources are catalogued and discovered across our service.
  • Impact & inclusion: Contribute to developing collections that reflect and meet the needs of Yarra’s diverse communities.
  • Flexibility & balance: Access flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options to support work-life balance.
  • Growth opportunities: Benefit from secondments, professional development, and career pathways both within the library sector and across the council.
  • Work culture: Be part of a service that celebrates diversity, values your independence, and supports your growth.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain accurate and consistent metadata across physical and digital collections.
  • Perform original and copy cataloguing in line with MARC21, RDA, DDC and LCSH standards.
  • Support the configuration and optimisation of the Library Management System (Symphony) and reporting tools such as BlueCloud Analytics.
  • Provide frontline customer service to ensure excellent library experiences for our community.
  • Liaise with suppliers and partners to ensure shelf-ready materials meet required standards.
  • Assist with staff training, process documentation, and system troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to resource development and matching, ensuring collections support the needs of Yarra’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Carry out other duties as required.

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking someone with:

  • Strong cataloguing and metadata skills (MARC21, RDA, DDC, LCSH).
  • Experience working with library management systems (Symphony or similar).
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work independently.
  • Customer service experience and a commitment to inclusive service delivery.
  • A passion for data, detail, and how systems can improve community access.

How to Apply:

In your application, please include/attach your CV and a brief cover letter addressing the Key Selection Criteria (KSC) as outlined in the Position Description. A separate document addressing KSC is not required.
