The Office of Advancement is seeking two Associate Director(s), Swarthmore Fund, responsible for the identification, engagement, and solicitation of Swarthmore alumni and friends who can make leadership-level annual gifts to The Swarthmore Fund.
The role supports the College’s heightened focus on annual support to meet student needs and is vital in engaging and growing Swarthmore’s 1864 Society ($1,864 -$99,999). The Associate Director manages a portfolio of up to 250 prospects and partners closely with Advancement colleagues to drive annual fundraising success and contribute to the long-term major gift pipeline.
In partnership with and reporting to the Director, Swarthmore Fund Leadership Programs, the Associate Director will anticipate constituent needs, use insights to craft responsive offerings, and shape the organizational capacity and shared expectations necessary to build systems and practices that create consistently meaningful engagement for alumni and donors. |

Assistant Director, Reporting

The Assistant Director supports the Advancement staff in technical systems used by the division and creates queries, reports, and data visualization for staff, College leadership, and College volunteers. The Interdisciplinary Programs Office seeks a creative, flexible, and organized team player to provide administrative support for the faculty coordinators and continuing faculty of (currently) ten interdisciplinary academic programs. The programs in Asian American Studies, Asian Studies, Cognitive Science, Comparative Literature, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Global Studies, Interpretation Theory, Latin American and Latino Studies, Medieval Studies, and Black Studies offer classes, majors and minors, information, and programming in subject areas outside and across the traditional departments. The programs range in size and support needs.
The Administrative Coordinator will have responsibility for organizing and publicizing public programs, including lectures, special events, and receptions (design, publicity, reservations, hospitality), guest travel reimbursement, processing honoraria requests) and for the programs’ budgets (transfers, accounting, reports). This is an 11 month position scheduled to work between mid-July and mid-June each academic year. |

This position is an essential component of the College’s Zero Waste Program. Moving away from the college's current fixed-cost waste contract is a key component to achieving cost savings through the diversion and reduction of waste. The role of this position is a significant step in the Zero Waste Plan because it enables Swarthmore to eventually remove all rear-load dumpsters from campus; resulting in a significant cost and carbon reduction.
The Zero Waste Program Technician supports the expansion of waste collection services on campus 7 days per week, as well as delivers compost to Kitchen Harvest at least 2 times each week. Flexibility is essential in this position to strengthen overall zero-waste efforts as a campus community. This position is part-time, benefits-eligible, working 24 hours per week. |

The Administrative Coordinator II (AC) in the Advancement Office provides senior-level support to the Vice President for Advancement (VP), serving as the primary administrative point of contact for the VP. That includes but is not limited to handling sensitive and confidential information in a discreet and professional manner; tracking and, at times, responding to correspondence on behalf of the VP; tracking and prioritizing tasks and projects based on the Office and College’s needs and strategic goals; tightly managing the VP’s calendar, ensuring it is accurate, up-to-date, and conflict free; scheduling travel and managinh trip logistics; preparing background material for meetings; and other related responsibilities. The AC will be a trusted partner and be able to anticipate the needs of the VP in proactive oversight of calendar, tasks, meetings, and travel in coordination with senior partners in Advancement.
The individual in this role must be highly attentive to detail and able to work on and keep on schedule multiple, complex projects with various deadlines; a skilled communicator with strong interpersonal communications skills; and a willing collaborator who works easily with others. The AC will interact regularly with other senior AC’s across campus and must establish and maintain regular communications with these colleagues.
The AC is also a primary conduit between the VP and the President’s office and schedules external meetings with alumni, parents, and friends in concert with that office/team. The AC makes travel arrangements and prepares itineraries for trips by the VP and President, files subsequent expense reports, and enters contact reports or follow-up in the Slate/CRM database. Collaborates with the Associate Director for Leadership Engagement to assist in preparing for pre-trip briefings of the President and VP prior to travel and meetings. |

The Chester Children’s Chorus seeks Elective Teachers for its 2025 Summer Learning Program, which runs from Monday, June 23 through Thursday, July 24.
Founded in 1994 by Dr. John Alston, the Chester Children's Chorus (CCC) provides rigorous music and math education to Chester, Pennsylvania students (grades 3-12). All CCC students are invited to attend the five-week CCC Summer Learning Program on the Swarthmore College campus. Students participate in daily choral music instruction, dance, art, academic and physical education classes.

We invite applications for an experimental research postdoctoral position in the Smith Materials Lab led by Associate Prof. Hillary Smith in the Physics Department at Swarthmore College. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a PhD in materials science, physics, applied physics, mechanical engineering or closely related field. Applicants with strong experimental skills and experience in neutron or X-ray scattering are especially encouraged to apply.
This DOE-funded position is for a research project aimed at investigating dynamics in glass-forming liquids. Ongoing projects study a variety of glasses including metallic, oxide, molecular, and chalcogenide glasses. Neutron scattering experiments, with a focus on quasielastic and inelastic measurements, are performed at national user facilities, particularly the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to lead the project, collaborate with the PI and undergraduate students on high-impact publications, and present at key conferences in the field.
The Smith Materials Lab is an interdisciplinary group of undergraduate students and research staff that thrives on teamwork and welcomes diverse candidates to join us. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a keen interest in developing leadership and mentoring skills. The successful candidate will work closely with undergraduate students at Swarthmore College. Therefore, demonstrated teamwork ability and experience in mentoring is required.
