University Student Assistant - English Department - Writing Center (Spring 2026) Jacksonville, AL (Main Campus)
Writing consultants have the opportunity to hold interactive writing appointments with student writers from all disciplines on various writing projects such as essays, speeches, proposals, multimodal projects, etc. Consultants must understand the structure of topic sentences, thesis statements, paragraphs, and essays along with essay knowledge. Writing consultants should have a good understanding of grammar and mechanics as well. Knowledge in various rhetorical modes and types (e.g. literary reviews, analyses, blogs, websites, presentations, etc....) is beneficial. Consultants will develop key skills such as communication, cooperation, and leadership. Consultants will also have the opportunity to specialize in types of writing and citation styles. Students will complete and submit bi-weekly timesheets.

The University Student Assistant will play a vital role in the Military Science Department at Jacksonville State University. Students will learn invaluable leadership and critical thinking skills while helping others. A Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) under the supervision of the faculty and/or staff, may include assisting faculty with various lab related tasks, performing classroom instruction, as well as other academic support duties, and departmental operational needs, and other associated and clerical duties as assigned. Teaching schedule will vary dependent upon lab schedule, lab prep, in class lab time, and post lab work.
