Job Description
The Department of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies (TECS) within the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a lecturer position with a focus on elementary education and literacy education (at the elementary level) with the possibility of renewal to begin September 1, 2025. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to teacher preparation programs emphasizing literacy methods, social studies methods, sheltered English immersion, and technology-mediated instruction. We seek a teacher-scholar with a demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Responsibilities
- Teach at the undergraduate level the early childhood practicum courses (EDUC 598A and EDUC 500Y) and their accompanying seminar (EDUC 491D) and supervise up to two student teachers per semester.
- Support students’ completion of the Massachusetts Candidate Assessment of Performance.
- Support students using assessment systems.
- Work with the Early Childhood Coordinator to oversee program supervisors of student teachers.
Requirements
We seek a highly talented faculty member who possessing the following qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s in Education or related field with a focus on elementary education, or equivalent.
- At least five years of experience teaching in elementary schools.
- College teaching experience is preferred.
- Experience working in schools that serve socio-economically, culturally and linguistically diverse students
- Experience working with pre-service and in-service teachers and administrators in school- university partnership programs.
- Knowledge of early childhood PreK-2 education teacher licensure requirements.
- Proficiency in instructional technology platforms.
- Ability to work effectively with learners of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrable record of commitment to equity, diversity, and social justice.
Additional Information
The initial appointment is for two years. Reappointments are contingent upon the availability of funding.
