General Summary of Position:

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available at the Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The postdoc is expected to start as early as Summer 2020 with a competitive stipend and benefits package. We seek highly motivated candidates with a strong multidisciplinary background, work ethics, and productivity.

The Food Microbiology Lab at UMass Lowell conducts well-funded research projects on 1) Non-destructive pathogen detection on artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled sensor array; 2) Advanced materials on key biointerface - new strategies to mitigate biofouling and biofilm formation, etc.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • PhD in biomedical engineering, microbiology, food safety, and related fields (must have PhD by the time of appointment) AND track record of publications

Experience:

  • Strong multidisciplinary background with established track records in microbiology and data analysis/science
  • Prior experiences in one or more of the following areas are non-essential, but will be considered favorably: nanomaterials, microfabrication (e.g., microfluidics, biosensor), bioinformatics, basic programming skills (e.g., MatLab, Python)

Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups and collaborators
  • Strong technical report writing and communication skills
  • Quantitative research methods and statistics

This position is contingent upon funding. The initial appointment will be for ONE year with a possibility of renewal based on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.
