About the Role
The Lead Business Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting the establishment, evolution, and continuous improvement of UNSW's global education initiatives, including UNSW Bengaluru, future transnational education partnerships, offshore campuses, and other international growth opportunities. The role will lead business analysis activities across complex strategic initiatives that underpin international education delivery and global operating models.
Working closely with academic and professional staff across multiple locations, the role focuses on designing and embedding the operating models, governance arrangements, service delivery frameworks, organisational capabilities, and business processes required to support successful global education ventures.
This role sits at the centre of a highly complex environment, bringing together multiple stakeholder groups across faculties, divisions, university leadership, external partners, and regulatory bodies. Success requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, build alignment across competing priorities, and develop evidence-based recommendations that support strategic decision-making.
A key focus of the role is developing business cases, evaluating operating model options, assessing organisational impacts, and helping define how services, governance, processes, capabilities, and accountabilities will operate across a global and transnational education environment. This role is less focused on technology delivery and more focused on business transformation, organisational design, operational readiness, and strategic planning.
The Lead Business Analyst reports to the Senior Manager, BA Practice and provides guidance to Business Analysts supporting these initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex business analysis activities supporting UNSW's global education initiatives, including UNSW Bengaluru, transnational education partnerships, offshore campuses, and future international growth opportunities.
- Develop operating model components covering governance, service delivery, organisational structures, decision-making frameworks, capabilities, and performance measures.
- Partner with academic and professional leaders to understand business needs and define future-state operating models that support international and transnational education delivery.
- Lead current-state assessments, capability reviews, process analysis, and future-state design activities to support strategic objectives.
- Develop business cases, options papers, investment justifications, and executive recommendations to support strategic decision-making and investment prioritisation.
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagements across diverse groups to build consensus and alignment around proposed solutions.
- Prepare high-quality briefing papers, governance materials, presentations, and decision-support documentation for senior leaders and steering committees.
- Identify business impacts, risks, dependencies, benefits, and operational considerations associated with proposed changes and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Coach Business Analysts, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality analysis and project artefacts.
- Work closely with project, change management, and program teams to support successful implementation and organisational readiness.
About You
- An experienced Lead Business Analyst who has successfully delivered large-scale transformation initiatives within complex organisations.
- Comfortable working with senior stakeholders, dealing with ambiguity, and translating strategic objectives into practical operating models and business outcomes.
- Significant experience as a Lead or Senior Business Analyst delivering complex transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience designing or reviewing operating models, governance frameworks, service delivery models, or organisational structures.
- Proven capability in developing business cases, options analyses, and executive-level recommendations that support strategic investment decisions.
- Strong experience working across multiple stakeholder groups with competing priorities and diverse perspectives.
- Excellent facilitation, influencing, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to simplify complex issues and drive practical outcomes.
- Experience leading and mentoring Business Analysts within large programs or transformation environments.
- Experience within higher education, international education, transnational education, international partnerships, offshore operations, or similarly complex institutional environments will be highly regarded.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
