Why your role matters
The Employability and External Relations Manager plays an integral role within the Nura Gili Indigenous Student Success team, providing leadership to the Future Students Coordinators and driving external engagement initiatives. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining effective internal and external networks, as well as leading the Indigenous Future Students Plan to support and promote Indigenous student access, employability and success.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Nura Gili, the position has three direct reports.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Contribute to a positive and dynamic Nura Gili community, informed by culturally affirming values, experiences and shared aspirations.
- Develop an Indigenous Future Students Plan and oversee its implementation, ongoing management and deliverables.
- Lead the Future Students Coordinators and manage day-to-day operations, including managing the activities performed by the team and managing resources deployed to meet operational and strategic objectives of the Indigenous Future Students Plan.
- In close collaboration with Nura Gili leadership, set and implement the strategic direction for external engagement projects, ensuring alignment with relevant initiatives and existing strategies.
- Oversee and evaluate external engagement activities and projects, providing additional advice and guidance to enhance outcomes as required.
About You:

- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven, extensive experience contributing to Indigenous programs and opportunities that result in positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, including evidence of successfully improving Indigenous student outcomes.
- Sophisticated ability to develop and execute external relations plans to meet priorities and objectives of Indigeous student outcomes.
- Extensive experience in employability related to higher education or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through education/training and/or experience.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, planning and evaluation, with excellent ability to manage multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
- Advanced written and positive verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced and ability to liaise with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead a team towards a shared vision, strong collective outcomes and a dynamic, positive environment.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to operate autonomously while demonstrating strong initiative and a proactive approach to driving process improvement.
- Advanced level of computer literacy, working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office and customer relations databases.
This role requires the successful candidate to hold a valid paid Working with Children’s Check.
